Borno Blasts, CDS, COAS in Maiduguri, urged Borno, Yobe residents to take ownership of the fight against terrorism

The Chief of Defence Staff, Lt General Olufemi Oluyede has urged the people of Borno and Yobe states to take ownership of the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

The visit following the directive of President Bola Tinubu that service Chiefs should relocate to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede and Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Wahidi Shaibu have arrived the head-quarters of Northeast Operation Hadin Kai to strategize on the ongoing fight against Boko Haram.

It could be recalled in recent times there were escalation of Boko Haram insurgents attacks on the military base across the theater and resurgence of suicide bomb blast in Maiduguri.

Speaking with journalists shortly after close door meeting, the CDS, General Olufemi Oluyede said.” So for us to
bring this to an end, all hands must be on deck. This is my message to people of Borno and Yobe states, because the bulk of people perpetrating this henious act are from these states. they are our brothers, our sisters, our cousins and we know them. I would give an example basically, when Kukawa was attacked and when we were conducting condone and search, the people that attack Kukawa the wounded are found inside the village, that means the people are complicit.”

“For us to bring this to an end, all hands must be on deck, our people must resolve that this has to come to an end. I want to put out clearly, our people must resolve this has to come to an end.”, the CDS said.

General Olufemi further said Well, thank you for your question. This is true, in the last one month there have been increased in attacks because of Ramadan But you know that we are doing our very best to checkmate this, and we continue to do that. But you know why I’m here today is to ensure that in future, this will not repeat itself. So we’re looking at the modalities.”.

He said “Our people Must resolve to end this act of terrorism, the people of Borno state and Yobe states, must take ownership of this problem.”

“I want to put it out clearly, this afternoon for us to end this act of terrorism, people of Borno and Yobe states must resolve to end the this. That’s my message to people of Borno and Yobe states”, he added.

The CDS who was accompanied by the, COAS and other principal officers from both the Defense and Army head-quarters on arrival in Maiduguri, went straight into closed door security briefing that lasted for over 4 hours.
