Civil Society Network On HB Commended The Motion Move By Rt Hon La’ori

From Muh’d Shafi’u Saleh

The member representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde federal constituency Rt. Hon Kwamoti B. Laori has received national accolades for his pivotal motion aimed at enhancing awareness, testing, treatment, and vaccination for Hepatitis B among children under five years old.

This commendation comes from Dr. Nseabasi Ekanem, the National Coordinator and President of the Civil Society Network on Hepatitis in Nigeria.

Dr. Ekanem praised Rep. Laori for championing a motion that led to the passage of crucial resolutions mandating the Federal Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Information and Communication to ramp up public awareness campaigns. These efforts seek to improve knowledge about testing, treatment, and vaccination, thereby curbing the spread of viral hepatitis across Nigeria.

The coalition backing this initiative includes esteemed health-focused organizations such as the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the Africa Centre for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, the World Hepatitis Alliance, and the Hepatitis B Foundation, among others. They collectively applaud Rep. Laori for prioritizing the health of Nigerians and enhancing the welfare of citizens.

The motion, presented by Rep. Laori on January 2025 during a session of the House of Representatives, has garnered widespread commendation from health advocacy groups nationwide. Many have proposed him for the title of National Health Ambassador in recognition of his timely and impactful efforts to save lives and improve health outcomes for Nigerians.

Dr. Ekanem highlighted the alarming statistic that over 20 million Nigerians are currently living with the Hepatitis B virus, with more than half remaining unaware of their status.

He emphasized the urgent need for increased awareness and proactive measures to prevent further spread of this critical health issue.

“Rep. Kwamoti Laori’s unwavering commitment to public health is a testament to his dedication to fostering a healthier Nigeria for all” He said.
