Cluelessness of the leadership throws Nigerians to more poverty – Peter Obi.

Former Anambra state Governor and the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has attributed the current economic challenges facing the country to bad governance from poor leadership.

Obi opined that, the cluelessness of the those in the position of power in the last ten(10) years brought us as a country to the present messing and chaotic situation noting that political leaders must be listeners and be ready to learn the right thing and to do it.

Obi beared his position in Yola, Adamawa state weekend while delivering his speech as the keynote speaker at the 16th Annual Founder’s Day and 20th Anniversary of the American University of Nigeria,AUN Yola stressing that, leaders must not act as though they know it all, but should be people-oriented.

He regretted that the economic sector has been badly affected and deformed with the Country’s GDP statistics or measurable index in the last ten years (2014).

According to him,the Country’s GDP in 2014 was 574 Billions dollars with per-capital rate of 3,200 dollars while presently the GDP statistics stand at 220 billions dollars with per-capital at 1000 dollars regrettably.

He stated that the leadership brought only poverty and crisis due to maladministration advocating that Nigeria will do well with leaders who respect popular views for national development.

“Leaders must be listeners and be ready to learn the right thing and to do it. Leaders must not act as though they know it all,” Obi said.

While commending Atiku for his sacrifices in contributing to educational sector,Obi cautioned Nigerians to desist from tribal, religious and nepotistic political considerations in the scheme of governance.

Delivering the Founder’s Day Special Remark during the ceremony, Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, defended the establishment of the AUN as an institution delivering America-style education.

Abubakar said he has no apology for developing the university based on the American system, as his wish is for Nigerians and other interested people to be able to receive the sort of education in America without having to go to America.

Abubakar tasked the University’s management to ensure AUN remains a beacon of innovation and service moving forward suggesting for establishing a new school of Agricultural studies with a view to provide expertise in food production.

In his remarks, Dr. Dewayne Frazier President of the AUN expressed gratitude to all and sundry for the support and cooperation been rendering to the University pledging to be more critical as a development style institution where future leaders are mould.
