Customs arrest 916 kegs of PMS worth N22,900,000 in Adamawa

In its relentless efforts to counter the smuggling of petroleum motor spirit (PMS) in the country, the Nigeria Customs service has intercepted and seized 916 kegs of petrol (PMS) with duty paid value worth N22,900,000.in Adamawa state.
National Coordinator of the Operation Whirlwind of the Customs, ACG Hussieni Ejibuhu disclosed the development at a press conference in Yola Friday saying that dedicated operatives of the Unit while on patrol intercepted and seized 916 Jerry cans of PMS containing 25 litres each yielding a volume of 22,900 litres.
ACG Ejibuhu explained that the seized PMS was intercepted in different locations in Maiha,Mubi,Gurin and Belel border towns which were being transported through unauthorized routes intended for illicit trade that undermines our country’s economy and security.
“Our dedicated officers intercepted and seized 916 Jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS),containing 25liters each, yielding a volume of 22,900liters, at these following flashpoints Maiha, Mubi, Gurin and Belel in Adamawa State.
“This operation was intelligence-driven and executed with precision, reflecting the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service in safeguarding our nation’s resources and ensuring compliance with the law.
“The seized items, with an estimated Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Twenty-Two Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira Only (₦22,900,000), were being transported through unauthorized routes, intended for illicit trade that undermines our economy and security.
“This interception is not just a victory for the Customs Service but a testament to the effectiveness and supportive collaboration of the ONSA and NMDPRA”.Ejibuhu added.
He reiterated the commitment of the Customs to ensure unrepentant smugglers are brought to their knees noting that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service,CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi with few of his management team were in Gembu, Taraba state on Thursday 13th Match 2025 over a seizure of 1,149 Jerry cans of PMS .
He decried that Smuggling of PMS, remains a significant challenge, driven by economic disparities and the lure of quick profits warning that with the sophisticated intelligence and technological driven potentials of the men of the Operation Whirlwind will get the defaulters wherever they may go.
