Customs seized smuggled PMS worth N51,947,500.00 in Adamawa/Taraba Area Command

The Adamawa/Taraba Area Command of the Nigeria Customs service has seized items with Duty paid value (DPV) worth N51,947,500.00 across the command’s borderlines.
Comptroller of the Command, Compt. Garba Bature Bashir made the disclosure at a press conference in Yola Wednesday stressing that, 29,825 litres of Petroleum motor spirit,PMS packed in 1,149 Jerry cans,4 drums of 220 litres of PMS, 8 drums of 200litres and 35 Jerry cans of 25 litres of Methylene chlorine (Suck and die)were recovered at a Cameroonian border.
Other items seized includes; 11 bales of second hand clothes, 3 Vehicles and a one (1) motor cycle used as means of conveyance of the intended smuggled PMS among others.
Comptroller Bashir declared that, these in accomplishments were achieved through due diligence, shared intelligence, uncompromising and unwavering efforts of the operatives with the support and corporation of the public.
He said that the seized PMS will be auctioned to interested members of the public due to its inflammable nature in line with the standard operating procedure as backed by the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023 respectively.
“The service is charged with the responsibility of facilitating legitimate trade, suppression of smuggling, revenue generation among others as contained in the Service Act and not to truncate the genuine cross -border supply chain”. Compt. Bashir noted.
He also announced that his command has generated N173,609,941.31 as the 2024 annual revenue generation target surpassing its original target of N132,000,000.00 by N41,609,941.31 which is translated into 23.97% increase above the target.
“This revenue is generated from the direct auction sales of seized items in accordance with Section 119 of the Customs service Act,2023”. Bashir stated.
He maintained that these achievements were recorded in the last three weeks of improved anti-smuggling operations in the command.
While enjoying all genuine oil and gas marketers and patriotic Nigerians to support the fight against smuggling activities, Comptroller Bashir reiterated the commitment to combatting all forms of smuggling activities to ensuring all smuggling cartels and networks are dismantled completely.
