Disease Outbreak: Yobe Health Ministry, PHCB, Others Hold Emergency, Response Meeting

In response to a recent disease outbreak, the Yobe State Government led by Commissioner of Health Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana has convened an emergency meeting with PHC LGA Directors the meeting was held at the Polio Emergency Operations Center in Damaturu.
The meeting equally brought together key health officials, local government stakeholders, and development partners to strategize on containment and prevention efforts.
The commissioner has while speaking during the meeting underscored the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the need for swift and coordinated action.
Also in a welcome address, the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Babagana Kundi Machina outlined the state’s ongoing disease surveillance and prevention initiatives.
During the meeting, the State Epidemilogist, Dr. Muhammad Ishaku made a presentation and provided an overview of the current surveillance efforts across the state while Dr. Alhassan Hamisu Dama who is the state WHO Coordinator presented an update on Circulating Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus Type 3 (cVDPV3) in Nguru.
Other notable speakers at the meeting included Dr. Umar Chiroma, Director of Immunization and Disease Control; Muhammad Garba, DFA; Dr. Ahmed Baaba, CDC AFENET; Haruna from SOLINA; Ahmed Mustapha, Director of Programs at YSCHMA; Adamu Musa Gambo, Hajiya Hauwa Ahmed; Musa Shehu; as well as online participants Dr. Usman Matazu (BMGF) and Dr. Bashir from UNICEF.
In a closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Alh. Isa Bukar, reiterated the government’s dedication to addressing public health concerns through strategic partnerships and swift interventions.
Dr. Hauwa Larai Goni, Director of Public Health at the State Ministry of Health, has during the meeting delivered a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the stakeholders’ dedication and collaboration.
The meeting reaffirmed the Yobe State Government’s commitment to proactive public health measures.
