DR Congo President Orders UN Peacekeeping Mission To Leave The Country
By Mowul tibek
The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Felix Tshisekedi has called on the UN forces stationed in his country to leave.
He said: “It is time for our country to take full control of its destiny and become the main actor in its own stability,” Tshisekedi told the UN General Assembly.
The mission, called MONUSCO, took over from an earlier UN operation in 2010 to help quell insecurity in the DRC’s east where armed groups fight over territory and resources.
The UN mission has been widely criticized for failing to restore peace in eastern DRC — sparking protests.
