During our operation to recapture Gwoza 2015, the story would have been different if not for late Col Abu-Ali.
A Concern Soldier
The mercenaries thought it was just a minor operation, Abu-Ali ask them to split themselves inside the tanks and drop from the light skinned vehicles.
Some of them were frowning because they want to shoot video of the operation.
Immediately they called the higher authority who called the then GOC Gen Adeosun.
He immediately arrived and had a brief meeting with the Mercenaries and late Col Abu-Ali.
Late Abu-Ali is someone who hardly talk, but once he say one thing and you oppose it, he won’t say anything again, he will just move on.
But to our greatest surprise, he was laying emphasis that day, GOC was shocked too and pleaded with the mercenaries to adhere.
Low and behold they agreed and we proceed, because we knew Gwoza would be one hell of a operation.
I knew why he was laying emphasis because we just recaptured Bama and we knew what we saw, the experience was bloody and that of Gwoza will be worse because of the terrain most especially that dangerous mountain.
We proceed few KM after we left, the unthinkable happened right in front of the mercenaries, landmines destroyed the vehicle and we lost all personnel, then another from the cjtf guys and, immediately we got close to Gwoza, My tank stepped on one too, but trust MRAP one the tyre got destroyed but operation will still go ahead as usual.
The volume of fire from BHT when we entered Gwoza I have never experience it in life, for over 8 hours shooting and launchers everywhere.
I couldn’t even turn to see what’s happening from my left or right.
At a point I noticed day was turning to night and everywhere became dark all of a sudden, for over 5 minutes I wasn’t seeing anything, but was exchanging fire.
Luckily the Ukrainian mercenaries came in with their gunship, machines within 10 minutes everywhere was cleared and the bloody mountain too was cleared. Gwoza was where I saw how they initiate youths into BHT, then I knew we are in for a long term war.
Because what we saw there isn’t for the faint hearted at all, blood in a drink cooked with lot of stuffs I can’t mention.
Then you see the armoury and their deployment, it was too massive for civilians to have such idea.
The mercenaries who wanted to shoot, see the shock on their faces, they don’t just know how to go and thank Abu-Ali because he was their saviour.

With your boy became men, and deadly operation was smooth, swift and successful with you.
