EFCC organizes 1 day workshop for Borno journalists, CSOs on Crypto-currency frauds, others crimes

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has organized a one day Workshop to Journalists and Civil Society Organisation (CSOs) in Borno on Crypto currency fraud and other related crimes.

Declaring the workshop open, the workshop which held at State Hotel Maiduguri on Thursday, the Zonal Director of EFCC, in Maiduguri, CE Aisha Habib Said, the workshop is to create awareness through community engagement with journalists and Civil Society Organisations on Crypto currency fraud and other related crimes, saying that ” This workshop is a crucial step in that direction to share insights, practices and strategies to mitigate the risks if crypto currency .”

The Zonal Director said ” On behalf of the Executive Chairman, I warmly welcome you all to this training,  it is with great honor that i stand before you today, at this auspicious event .

“The current digital and technological era offers immense opportunities for growth, but often come with challenges. As we gather here today, we recognize the importance of staying ahead of the curve and equipping ourselves with the knowledge and tools”, she stressed.

CE Habib further said “Distinguished guests, ladies & gentlemen. Understanding crypto-currency associated with crypto-currencies and other emerging financial of Leadership of our chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede, to declare this workshop on fraud and other emerging financial crimes officially open.

“Innovation, they also present new challenges and risks, particularly in the organization by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission under the leadership of our chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede, in this era of rapid digital transformation, the landscape of financial realm of financial crimes.

transactions is evolving at an unprecedented pace of Crypto-currencies, it is necessary to combat financial crimes. This workshop is a crucial step in that

direction to share insights, practices and strategies to mitigate the risks in this auspicious gathering. Your presence is a testament of combatting financial crimes and promoting safe and secure financial beginning and may our collective efforts make a lasting impact in the fight.

Let’s us seize this opportunity to learn from each other, share our experience from the scourge of financial crimes and strengthen our collective efforts to protect the economy and citizens, environs.

Speaking in an interview with journalists shortly after the workshop, the Zonal Director, Aisha Habib said “we need community engagements and the media and CSOs are the mirrow of the society and you have access to the society that is why we organized such workshop, this issue of Crypto-currency is a global issues”.

“The issue of Crypto either legitimate or illegitimate is on going. We want to make people who don’t know the advantage and disadvantage of Crypto trading, that is why we are here to engage you to highlight the issues”, She said.

The Zonal Director said ” the key message is create awareness, be conscious and spread the message, there is nothing like 200 percent profit, there is no way you can invest in 100 and 200 percent profit be aware, there is financial fraud related to Crypto-currency.”

“Our chairman when he came on board, think of how we can effectively improve on how we can fight corruption through public engagements Any company that comes in and is duely registered with CAC, has come to the EFCC and register with scrulll our anti-laundry department. We are puting more efforts, we have done a lot but is not enough, that is why the current chairman, when he came on board brings such initiatives for us to reach out to more stakeholders.”, She further said .

She said ” So we have not left anybody, we’re trying to bring all, we cannot 100 percent fight corruption overnight but we are doing that.

“We have trialed and secure conviction of many cases. You can go to media and see number of cases we have secured conviction, we have secure over 4,000 cases this year alone, , we are trying to deter them and also saniitize their business, Habib added.

She further stressed that the EFCC chairman is commitment to reaching out to many stakeholders so that in partnership they can fight corruption and fraud, especially crypto-currency fraud, adding that investigations of high profile case takes longer time due border issues.

Also, the head of media and communication, EFCC, Mr Deke Oyowald said “inline with our chairman’s vision we want the people to take the ownership of fight Against corruption and frauds that’s why we engage the media, CSOs and everybody to own the fight against corruption, fraud and other crimes”.

He said “This issues of Crypto-currency frauds and others issues are tearing our nation. All of us, the EFCC, the media and CSOs have come together and join hands together and fight corruption, Media Houses have platforms and CSOs have platforms, we have come together all of us to galvanize energy to fight corruption, so that we would have Nigeria of our dream.”

The media head said just last year, the commission arrign five Governors and five minister, stressing that they are not only concentrating on yahoo yahoo boys alone.

He also call on all well meaning Nigerians to join hands with the commission to fight corrupt, stressing that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility.
