Emir of zurmi Escapes Narrowly as Bandits Invade Palace in Zamfara
By Nura Salisu, Gusau
Gunmen stormed the palace of the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Bello Muhammad Bunu and the residence of the former Military Administrator of Nasarawa State, Colonel Bala Muhammad Mande (rtd), killing three persons and kidnapping scores in Zamfara State.
Locals said the attackers invaded the town around 10pm on Wednesday when Col. Mande, a former minister of environment under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, the Emir Bunu were not at their residences.
The gunmen pulled down a GSM mast and set ablaze two generating sets located adjacent to the emir’s palace.
The State Commissioner of Police Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, said there was an attack but denied knowledge that some people were killed.
He said a staff of Zurmi emir’s palace was kidnapped, adding that “He was not abducted in the palace as is being speculated. Rather, he was abducted somewhere within the town.
“I can only confirm the abduction of one person and the burning of the GSM service mast,” he said.
Those kidnapped were Sarkin Gida of Zurmi Emirate, Alhaji Yusuf Buhari; a tea vendor whose shop is close to the palace and one other person.
