Fubara Rejects Assembly’s Ultimatum on 2025 Budget
By Hussaini Ibrahim
The Rivers State Government has rejected the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the State House of Assembly, demanding the re-presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
The ultimatum, given on Monday by the faction of the Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, came in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that reinstated the lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
However, in a response dated March 5, 2025, the Rivers State Government stated that it had not received any formal communication from the Assembly regarding the directive.
The letter, signed by a senior government official, clarified that neither the governor’s office, the deputy governor’s office, nor the Accountant-General’s office had received the Assembly’s resolution as of Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
The government also noted that its legal team is still awaiting the certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment before taking any action.
It assured the public that once the official document is obtained, Governor Siminalayi Fubara would act in the best interest of the people of Rivers State.
The latest development underscores the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, as the rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, continues to shape the state’s governance.
