Flood disaster: citizens for peace mission urges states to establish Emergency Response Team

The Commander General of the Citizens for Peace and First Aid Mission of Nigeria (CPFAMN), , Col. Igwe Amara (RTD) has called for the establishment of Emergency Response Team by states across the country to respond to flood disaster and other natural disaster such as recent flood that ravaged Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The Commander General who made the call in Maiduguri on Friday shortly after assessing flooded areas and IDP camps said ” It is high time for every state in Nigeria to establish State ” Emergency Response Team ” to respond to natural disaster such as Maidugurii flood”.

The Commander said he is in Maidugurii to sympathize with the victims of the flood, aassess the situation with a view to train his men on stabilization operation, stressing that very soon he is coming back for the stabilization operation in Maiduguri.

“The establishment of the emergency response team became necessary because natural disasters are reoccouring thing, in 2012 we had flood in Bayelsa, follow by another disaster in Delta, Kaduna and now Maiduguri. So we should always prepare for disaster”, he said.

He said ” I want to tell the people of the state that the citizens for peace and first aid mission stamds with them, we are with them in this trying moment “.

Col Amara (RTD) said the citizen for peace and first aid mission will in the first quarter of 2025 open a national camp to train civilian in Emergency Response but that of Maiduguri will done before the end of this year to pave way for stabilization operation.

He commended the Federal Government for timely response to the victims of Maiduguri flood and the military for their role in evacuating and rescuing the Maiduguri flood victims.

“The military used heavy military vehicles in rescuing and evacuating the victims of Maiduguri flood, this was the first in the history of the world that heavy military equipment were used to evacuate flood victims”, he added.

While addressing the flood victims at custom area, Commander Amara said ” I am here to sympathize with you over the flooding, Thank God that you are alive and we pray that Almighty will replenish whatever you lost and grant eternal life to those who lost their lives.”

He prayed that Almighty Allah will grant eternal life to those who lost their lives and replenish to those who lost their property.
