Goro Poised to Take Kano Deputy Governorship Amid Political Maneuvering

By Abba Dukawa

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is reportedly on the verge of appointing Murtala Sule Garo as his new deputy governor, a move that could reshape the state’s political landscape.

Sources close to the governor reveal that Abba has been meticulously gathering intelligence and consulting key stakeholders within the APC to solidify the decision.

The party had recently been rocked by internal tensions, as rival factions jostled for influence. Yet, after a series of discreet but intense private meetings, these differences appear to have been smoothed over—at least for now.

An insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Governor Abba’s behind-the-scenes negotiations with political heavyweights from southern Kano were crucial in securing their backing for Garo.

Support for Garo also comes under the watchful eye of former national APC chairman and ex-Governor of Kano, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who reportedly endorsed the move along with most senior party leaders.

Only a couple of party stalwarts have raised concerns, warning that the appointment could ignite political friction in certain quarters.
Murtala Sule Garo, who served as Commissioner for Local Governments and ran as APC deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, has emerged as the frontrunner following the resignation of Comrade Aminu AbdusSalam Gwarzo last weekend.

Observers suggest that his appointment would not only reward loyalty but also strategically balance power within Kano State’s volatile political equation.
