By Hussaini Ibrahim

DAMATURU, NIGERIA — Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved scholarships and laptops for 148 indigenes of Yobe State admitted into the 2026 academic session of the Nigerian Law School, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to educational advancement and human capital development.

The approval was announced during a joint meeting of the Yobe State Scholarships Board convened for the disbursement of funds, with the Governor represented by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Bello Kawuwa.

Dr. Kagu Abubakar, Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Scholarship Board, said each beneficiary would receive a scholarship grant of ₦475,000 alongside a brand-new laptop to support their studies.

“This comprehensive package is designed to ease the financial burden of Law School training and enhance academic performance,” Abubakar stated.

With this intervention, the total number of law graduates sponsored by the Buni administration since 2020 has risen to 719. Most of these beneficiaries have successfully completed their studies and are now practicing lawyers contributing to the justice sector and national development.

In a move aimed at inclusivity, Governor Buni also approved financial support for 11 candidates undertaking resit examinations at the Nigerian Law School, underscoring the administration’s commitment to ensuring no Yobe indigene is left behind in the pursuit of professional qualification.

Yusuf Ali, Focal Person for Digital and Strategic Communications, said the initiative reflects the government’s sustained efforts to expand access to higher education, empower youths with competitive skills, and nurture a generation of professionals capable of driving sustainable development in Yobe State and beyond.

“This scholarship programme is a clear demonstration of our commitment to building human capital and providing opportunities for the youth to thrive academically and professionally,” Ali added.
