GOV BUNI COMMENDS ICRC

His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe state Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON (Chiroman Gujba) has commended the international committee of Red Cross( ICRC) on its enormous contributions to addressing the various humanitarian crises during the most trying period of insurgency.

The Governor gave the commendation on Thursday 9 – November 2023 when he recieved the Head of office International committee of Red Cross ICRC, Damaturu, Mohamedoun Mohammed on a courtesy call at the Government House Damaturu.

The governor was represented by his Deputy His Excellency Hon Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune) who disclosed that it’s on record that the victims of insurgency in several communities have received many packages of interventions.He also pointed out that the Agency greatly assisted Yobe state Government in it’s Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction programs.

The Deputy Governor appealed to the ICRC to dwell on the areas of empowerment, training and give priority on socio- economic stability.

Earlier in his remarks,the Head of operations of ICRC Mohamedoun Mohammed explained that the purpose of the visit was to familiarize himself and assess the programmes of the ICRC in Yobe particularly in rebuilding livelihoods and engaging with relevant stakeholders towards protecting and assisting affected people especially the internally displaced persons.(IDPs)

He said ICRC has executed many projects especially in Gaidam and Buni Yadi in ensuring Resettlement of IDPs.

He said plans is underway to assist the recent victims of Boko Haram in Unguro kayayya community of Gaidam local government area.

In their separate contributions the commissioner Humanitarian affairs and desaster management, Dr. Mairo Ahmad Amshi , Aji Yerima Bularafa of wealth creation, empowerment and employment generation as well as Mohammad Lawan Gama of Health made a special appeal to ICRC to give more emphasis on water supply, healthcare and empowerment of women and training for Youths to be self reliant for sustainable solutions.
