Gov. Buni Donates N10 Million, Relief Package to Potiskum Phone Centre Victims

By Hussaini Ibrahim Sulaiman

In a continued show of compassion and leadership, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has extended a fresh round of support to victims of the Potiskum Phone Centre Market incident, with additional disbursements following an earlier N10 million cash donation.

The multi-phase relief package, which includes unconditional cash transfers and food baskets, is being rolled out in several stages—through bank transfers, direct cash distribution, and a hybrid of food and cash support.

This effort comes as part of Governor Buni’s sustained initiative to help affected traders and families recover and rebuild their livelihoods.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje, praised the local government leadership and the Potiskum Phone Centre (PPC) management for their resilience and coordination, which he said ensured a smooth and transparent relief distribution process.

Dr. Goje also hinted at additional support measures in the pipeline, including plans to improve market infrastructure and reduce the risk of future incidents.

“This is not just about recovery; it’s about sustainability and protection,” he said.

Echoing the governor’s efforts, the Vice Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area described Buni as a “youth-friendly leader” who has once again demonstrated genuine concern for the welfare of the people, especially the predominantly youth-driven phone market.

In a show of gratitude, the Chairman of the Potiskum Phone Centre expressed deep appreciation to Governor Buni for what he called “unwavering support,” and appealed for the speedy relocation and fencing of a permanent site for the market to enhance security and organization.

The latest intervention builds on Governor Buni’s reputation for responsive governance and his administration’s commitment to the welfare of citizens affected by disaster or misfortune.
