The long-anticipated Damaturu Mega Motor Park project has officially kicked off, signaling a new chapter in Yobe State’s drive toward modern infrastructure and improved urban mobility.

Construction work began this week with the contractor, Samsud Construction Nig. Ltd., mobilizing to the site along Potiskum Road, initiating site clearance for what will soon become one of the most ambitious transport hubs in the Northeast.

Valued at ₦6.1 billion, the project comes with a completion timeline of 12 calendar months and is part of the Yobe State Government’s broader urban renewal agenda, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni.

The Mega Motor Park is set to feature state-of-the-art terminals, loading bays, commercial centers, passenger lounges, and essential support services—all aimed at enhancing the safety, comfort, and efficiency of travel for commuters and operators.

Officials say the project will not only modernize the state’s road transport infrastructure but also create hundreds of jobs for artisans, vendors, and service providers operating within and around the park.

“This initiative reflects our vision to transform Damaturu into a modern city with world-class public infrastructure,” said Yusuf Ali, Senior Special Assistant on Digital and Strategic Communications. “The Mega Motor Park will serve as a catalyst for economic growth and social development.”

Residents and transport union leaders have praised the government’s commitment, describing the project as long overdue and crucial for boosting commercial transport activities in the state capital.

As machinery rolls in and construction gets underway, expectations are high for the timely delivery of a facility that will not only ease traffic congestion and streamline interstate travel but also enhance the overall aesthetics and functionality of Damaturu.

The motor park project is one of several key infrastructure developments currently being executed by the Buni administration, further demonstrating its commitment to a functional, future-ready Yobe State.
