Gov Buni intensifies Damaturu motor park construction to boost Yobe economy
By Hussaini Ibrahim
DAMATURU, YOBE STATE — Yobe State Governor, (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON has intensified work on the construction of a mega ultra-modern motor park in Damaturu as part of efforts to boost economic activities, modernise transportation infrastructure, and ease passenger movement across the state, Daily Hint can reveal.
The project, located along the Potiskum Road axis of the state capital, forms a key component of the Buni administration’s broader strategy to revitalise the local economy and improve efficiency within the transport sector.
Findings by Daily Hint indicate that the motor park, designed to meet modern operational standards, will be equipped with an administrative block for government officials, designated loading and offloading bays for passengers, a drivers’ lounge, and a cargo handling unit.
Other facilities to be provided include a clinic, police post, and fire service station, as well as a food court and fruit shop, public conveniences, a mosque with an ablution area, a vehicle maintenance workshop, and supporting infrastructure such as perimeter fencing, a gatehouse, and a generator room.
The mega terminal is expected to create employment opportunities, particularly for youths, expand the state’s internally generated revenue base, and stimulate commercial activities within and around Damaturu.
Further investigations revealed that the Damaturu motor park is one of four terminals planned by the state government within the metropolis. In addition to the Potiskum Road terminal, which serves as the flagship project, similar facilities are expected to be constructed along the Gujba, Gashua, and Maiduguri road corridors.
Observers say the initiative underscores the Buni administration’s commitment to reforming the transport sector and deploying infrastructure development as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth in Yobe State.
