Kano Govt Donates Land Worth N3bn for NWDC Headquarters in Kano
By Hussaini Ibrahim
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has donated a 1.9-hectare plot of land—valued at N3 billion—to the North West Development Commission (NWDC) for the construction of its permanent headquarters in Kano.
The land, carved from Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) premises, was given free of charge as part of the state government’s support for the commission’s takeoff.
Governor Yusuf also pledged to provide temporary office space with necessary renovations to facilitate the commission’s immediate operations.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday after Yusuf received the NWDC Chairman and management team at Government House, Kano.
Governor Yusuf commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly for establishing the NWDC, describing it as a timely intervention to tackle pressing challenges in the North West, including insecurity, hunger, and malnutrition.
He urged the commission’s leadership to focus on socioeconomic development, social services, and environmental challenges across the region.
In response, NWDC Chairman, Alhaji Isma’il Lawal Abdullahi Yakawada, said their visit was to formally introduce the commission’s leadership and strengthen collaboration with the Kano State Government. Managing Director Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji appreciated the governor’s gesture, emphasizing that the land was donated free of charge to support the agency’s mission.
Governor Yusuf assured the NWDC of Kano State Government’s full support in ensuring the commission operates effectively.
