By Hussain Ibrahim Suleiman
As His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni celebrates his 57th birthday, it’s an opportune moment to acknowledge his unwavering commitment to the well-being of the people of Yobe State.
His leadership has been instrumental in addressing the pressing humanitarian crisis that has plagued the region.
A Multi-Faceted Approach to Humanitarian Relief
Governor Buni’s administration has implemented a comprehensive strategy to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable individuals, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and flood victims. Key initiatives include:
• Multi-Purpose Cash Transfer:
Over 25,500 vulnerable individuals across 17 Local Government Areas are set to receive 50,000 Naira each, directly into their bank accounts.
• Financial Support for IDPs and Flood Victims:
Over 180 million Naira has been disbursed to 1,118 individuals affected by displacement and floods in Tarmuwa LGA, with each recipient receiving 70,000 or 50,000 Naira monthly for three months.
• Partnership with Save the Children International:
Governor Buni’s collaboration with SCI has enabled the provision of crucial support, including cash assistance, non-food items, and capacity-building programs.
A Testament to Integrity and Transparency
Fatima Adamu, an IDP from Mafa, exemplifies the integrity of the beneficiaries. She voluntarily returned an excess cash amount of 50,000 Naira, showcasing the positive impact of the government’s initiatives and the trust placed in the distribution process.
Building Resilience and Fostering Recovery
Governor Buni’s commitment to building the resilience of affected communities is evident in the ongoing efforts to support flood victims in Nguru LGA. The collaboration between Yobe SEMA and SCI ensures that essential resources, including cash assistance and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH) non-food items, are delivered to those in need.
As Yobe State continues to navigate the challenges posed by humanitarian crises, Governor Mai Mala Buni’s leadership provides a beacon of hope.
His dedication to the well-being of his constituents serves as an inspiration, driving positive change and fostering a brighter future for the state.
