Governor Buni Announces Eid Feeding Program for Almajiri Schools
By Hussaini Ibrahim Sulaiman
In a bid to support vulnerable children during the Eid celebrations, Governor Mai Mala Buni has announced a special feeding program for Almajiri schools in several towns across the state.
According to official sources, the initiative, tagged Abincin Sallah Tsangayoyin Almajiri, will be implemented in the following locations: Geidam, Buni Yadi, Damaturu, Ngelzarma, Mamudo, Gashua, and Nguru.
The program aims to provide festive meals to Almajiri students—young boys enrolled in traditional Islamic schools—many of whom rely on public generosity for sustenance.
The governor’s intervention is expected to bring relief to both the children and their caregivers during the Eid festivities.
Community leaders and education stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as a step towards addressing the welfare of Almajiri students. However, some have called for a more sustainable approach to improving their living conditions beyond seasonal interventions.
Efforts to reach government officials for further details on the budget, logistics, and long-term plans for the initiative are ongoing. Meanwhile, residents in the listed towns have expressed anticipation and appreciation for the upcoming program.
Speaking to DAILY HINT, a teacher in one of the Tsangaya schools in Damaturu, Mallam Musa Adamu, said, “This is a good initiative, but we hope the government will also focus on improving the learning environment and general welfare of these children.”
A resident of Nguru, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad, added, “It is heartwarming to see the government take steps to care for these children during Sallah. I only hope such programs will continue regularly.”
The announcement comes as part of broader efforts by Governor Buni to support vulnerable groups, especially during religious celebrations.
