Governor Buni unveils Ruga settlement project
By Hussaini Ibrahim
NGURU — Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has called on politicians, public office holders, and other public-spirited individuals to emulate the community-driven development initiatives of philanthropist Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi DJ.
Buni made the call on Sunday while commissioning a Ruga settlement project constructed by Alhaji Balarabe DJ, located about seven kilometres from Nguru town in Nguru Local Government Area of the state.
The governor commended the philanthropist for what he described as exemplary service to humanity, noting that the project reflects the impact private individuals can make in complementing government efforts.
“I must commend and appreciate him on behalf of the good people of this community, Nguru Local Government Area, Yobe State, and indeed Nigeria at large,” Buni said.
According to the governor, the Ruga settlement project has demonstrated a strong multiplier effect through the provision of essential social infrastructure, including a school, a clinic, and housing facilities.
“We have seen the transformative impact of this initiative — particularly the school, the clinic, and the housing provided for the Ruga settlement. This is highly commendable,” he added.
During the visit, Governor Buni also commissioned a sesame seed processing factory in Machina Local Government Area, constructed by the state government as part of efforts to promote agro-industrial development.
“I am highly delighted to be here. The structure is impressive, and what we are witnessing represents a deliberate effort towards the prudent utilisation of our resources,” the governor said.
He explained that the investment in the processing factory was justified by its clear economic purpose, adding that the facility would enhance value addition and boost agricultural productivity.
The governor urged members of the host community to make optimal use of the factory for their collective benefit and that of the state.
He described the sesame processing plant as one of several development facilities established across Yobe State, which are now being commissioned to stimulate economic growth.
Buni further appealed to other wealthy individuals and stakeholders to follow the example set by Alhaji Balarabe DJ by supporting community-based development initiatives.
“I therefore call on other public-spirited individuals to emulate this noble example and complement the efforts of government,” he said.
The governor emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships in accelerating development and achieving sustainable growth across Yobe State.
