Governor Yusuf Launches Land Reforms in Kano
By Beli Abubakar Nasiru
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially launched a landmark reform in land administration with the renovation of the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) and the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning’s administrative block.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf hailed the development as a significant step towards creating a transparent and efficient land management system. He emphasized the importance of the comprehensive recertification of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) aimed at ensuring accurate and secure land records, protecting investments, and resolving land disputes. The Governor urged landowners to promptly comply with the process.
Governor Yusuf also criticized the previous administration for its failure in urban planning and land management, citing corruption and mismanagement as key issues. He pledged to restore order through reforms that promote accountability, innovation, and sustainable development.
At the heart of the reforms is the introduction of a state-of-the-art Geographic Information System (GIS) designed to modernize land management, improve urban planning, enhance taxation, and address revenue leakages. The Governor also announced a ban on inappropriate land allocations and the establishment of a State Task Force on Development Control to address urban challenges and protect the cultural heritage of Kano.
Governor Yusuf underscored the completion of the full renovation of KANGIS and the Ministry’s facilities, which are now equipped with modern ICT infrastructure to improve service delivery and demonstrate the administration’s commitment to professionalism and transparency.
