Group hails Uzodimma, cites Assumpta flyover as landmark project
By Hussaini Ibrahim
OWERRI, NIGERIA — The Imo Progressives Movement has hailed what it described as the “giant developmental strides” of Governor Hope Uzodimma across Imo State, declaring that he has fundamentally delivered on his mandate in ways “never before experienced in the state.”
In a communiqué issued at the end of its Fourth National Executive Council meeting held in Owerri on Monday, and signed by its National Convener, Eugene Dibiagwu, the group celebrated what it called visible and verifiable progress across the Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu zones.
Dibiagwu said the administration’s impact was evident in the construction and rehabilitation of roads spanning the three senatorial districts, noting that more than 130 roads had been awarded across the state in the last six years.
“The scale and speed of infrastructure delivery under Uzodimma surpass what any previous government in the state achieved. He has fundamentally delivered on purpose more than ever experienced in the history of Imo State,” he said.
According to the group, the state has witnessed the development of major road corridors and urban renewal initiatives as practical demonstrations of good governance.
“This is purposeful leadership that emphasises the construction of strategic road networks that have improved mobility, boosted commerce and enhanced connectivity among communities,” Dibiagwu added.
The movement highlighted the Assumpta Flyover in Owerri as a symbol of modernisation, stating that the project has eased traffic congestion in the state capital and stands as a landmark of infrastructure renewal. It also cited improved street lighting, road beautification and pedestrian walkways as measures that have enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the Owerri metropolis.
Beyond road infrastructure, the group commended the governor for investments in tourism, hospitality and industry, saying conference facilities and hospitality projects have strengthened the state’s economic profile and positioned Imo as a destination for business and events.
The communiqué further praised the administration’s interventions in the health and education sectors, including hospital upgrades, improved access to healthcare services, rehabilitation of public schools, recruitment of teachers and support for tertiary institutions.
It added that increased internally generated revenue, payroll reforms and the introduction of a 13th-month salary for civil servants were indicators of fiscal discipline and economic growth under the current administration.
