Gunmen Attack Plateau Communities, Resulting in Loss of 140 Lives

Gunmen have attacked several communities in the Plateau State Local Government Areas of Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi, killing at least 140 residents.
While an official casualty count is pending, residents assert the numbers surpass single digits.
The series of assaults, spanning from Saturday into Sunday, disrupted the festive Christmas preparations for many.
Reports indicate that the assailants also set houses ablaze and pillaged properties.
Caleb Mutfwang, the Governor of Plateau, urged security forces to apprehend the perpetrators.
In a statement by Gyang Bere, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mutfwang condemned the attacks and implored residents to remain vigilant, encouraging them to promptly report any suspicious activities to security forces for immediate intervention.
Governor Mutfwang stressed the significance of unified efforts among rural communities and pledged proactive measures from the government to stem the ongoing assaults.
Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has condoled the victims of the Christmas Eve killings in Plateau State.
In a statement signed by the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, says “The loss of lives, is a devastating blow to our collective peace and unity”.
Archbishop Okoh commended the swift response of the security agency and urged them to intensify efforts in intelligence gathering and proactive interventions to forestall such dastardly acts in the future.
The report says the assailants attacked Ruku, Hurum, Darwat, Mai Yanga Sabo, NTV, and Lisham Kwahasnat communities in the state.
