IGP Launches Special Security Intervention Programme In Plateau State
By Solomon Pam
A Special Security Operation Intervention Squad has been launched in Plateau state.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun disclosed this when he paid a condolence visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Jos.
Since the coordinated Christmas Eve attacks in some communities in Plateau State that left scores of people dead, many injured and property destroyed,
the state has continued to witness an inflow of visitors to condole with the Government and people.
The Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun noted that the police force was taking the recent attacks as a challenge, hence the introduction of a special form of intervention.
The IGP therefore called for support from the people of the state as the force commences the operation.
He also charged them not to panic on sighting the movement of security personnel but to assist by providing credible information to ensure the success of the exercise.
Responding, Governor Caleb Mutfwang lamented the situation where some individuals defending themselves in the communities are arrested and branded as suspects.
The Governor lauded President Bola Tinubu for exhibiting the political will to tackle the ugly incident to fish out and arrest perpetrators and their sponsors.
This is the second visit by the Inspector General of Police to Plateau state in six months geared towards containing the incessant cases of attacks and killing of citizens of the state.
