Imo Transport Unions Stage Solidarity March for Uzodimma

By Hussaini Ibrahim

OWERRI — The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and its sister associations — the Imo State Tricycle Association (ISTOA) and the Imo Motorcycle Association (IMA) — on Friday staged a solidarity love march in support of Governor Hope Uzodimma, citing his remarkable support for the transport sector since assuming office.

The rally, held in Owerri, drew hundreds of transport workers who praised Governor Uzodimma for what they described as transformative leadership and unprecedented infrastructural development across the state, Daily Hint gathered.

The position of the unions was contained in a press statement issued shortly after the march by the NURTW Imo State Council Chairman, Hon. Ambassador Ikenga Jeff Eze, JP (Ofia Afulu Agu).

“We say a big thank you to Your Excellency for your remarkable achievements in the infrastructural development of the transport sector of our beloved state,” the statement read.

According to Daily Hint findings, Eze stated that since the inception of the Uzodimma administration, the associations had witnessed significant improvements in road infrastructure and transport management across the state.

He described the governor as a visionary leader whose pragmatic and proactive approach to governance has ushered in a new era of growth, stability and prosperity in Imo State.

He also commended the supervisory role of the Ministry of Transport, led by Hon. Emeka Okonkwo, noting that its effective oversight has contributed to a more organised and less chaotic transport sector under the governor’s dynamic leadership.

Eze further disclosed that the completion of 123 roads by the Uzodimma administration has greatly improved connectivity within the state, reduced maintenance costs for transporters and cut down travel time on previously dilapidated routes, Daily Hint reports.

While pledging their 100 per cent support to the governor, the associations appealed for revolving loans or grants to empower their members. They also requested allocation of plots of land for the construction of secretariats to ease the burden of high office rents.

The unions expressed optimism that ongoing projects, including ultra-modern motor parks described as first of their kind in the state, will further strengthen the transport sector and enhance service delivery, reaffirming their confidence in Governor Uzodimma’s people-oriented administration, Daily Hint reports.
