INSURGENCY : 1,780 teachers undergone social emotional learning training in Adamawa.

No fewer than 1,780 teachers participated in a social emotional learning techniques training organized by the Adamawa state government in the state.

Some participants in the two day training on social emotional learning for teachers in the 21 local government areas appealed to the government to provide more of such opportunities insisting that it will go a long way in bringing out the best practices in them.

A participant, Abdullahi Umar Ganye, who attended the training in Jada zone which comprised four local councils of Ganye,Jada,Toungo and Mayo-belwa described the training as “apt and timely”.

Umar Ganye explained that the training has really broadened their teaching skills and capabilities especially with the modernized teaching methodologies availed to them.

While applauding the efforts of the government and the facilitators, Ganye called for more of the trainings so that the teachers can catch up with the competitive global trend in the education sector.

Corroborating on the same vein, another teacher and participant, Aliyu Abdulkadir of GDSS So’o in Jada council expressed gratitude to the facilitators of the training calling on the government to be organizing such trainings quarterly.

Abdulkadir opined that as moulders of the younger generation, teachers need to be updated and upgraded with the dynamic nature of their choosed carrier.

“The training was impactful and interactive which broaden our knowledge on social,moral and professional sector so as to face the job inspirationally as pace setters to humanity”. Abdulkadir added.

One of the facilitators of the training, Zailani Ahmed of the GSE department, F.C.E Yola said that the training was a success stressing that all the goals were achieved .

Ahmed stated that the training had 288 participants from various primary and post primary schools in the four local government areas of Toungo, Ganye, Mayo-belwa and Jada and had proven their worthiness through the pre and post training test or assessment forms filled by all.

The consultant for the programme, Dr. My friend Bulus from the University of Maiduguri had earlier told journalists in an interview that the the Adamawa state government through its Ministry of Education and Human Development organized the 3-day capacity building training for 1,780 primary and secondary school teachers on social, emotional learning.

Bulus, said the North-east geo political zone has its share of insurgency and other conflicts and many people are traumatised with others also stressed up and facing challenges of hunger, starvation and poverty caused by both human and natural disasters, hence the need for the training.

Bulus stated further that such training will equip and give the teachers the capacity to be able to speak up to reality on ground because the teachers themselves are traumatised and the parents are traumatised.
