Jigawa Govt Partners with Azman University to Boost Education, Skill Development
By Hussaini Ibrahim
The Jigawa State Government has announced a strategic partnership with Azman University to expand educational opportunities and enhance human capital development in the state.
The collaboration, unveiled during a courtesy visit by Azman University’s management to Governor Mallam Umar Namadi at the Government House in Dutse, aims to support innovative learning approaches, sponsor students in specialized programs, and promote skill development in critical areas such as computing, data science, aviation management, and artificial intelligence.
Vice-Chancellor of Azman University, Professor Fatima Batool Mukhtar, expressed appreciation for the state government’s commitment to education, noting its allocation of 32% of the 2024 budget to the sector and an additional N3 billion for scholarships.
She highlighted the university’s focus on excellence and innovation, including online learning services, compulsory e-learning weeks, and student participation in decision-making through the Students’ Consultative Forum.
“We have online services that allow students to attend lectures from home, while lecturers can also teach remotely. To ensure familiarity with this system, we have set aside one week every semester for compulsory e-learning,” she stated.
Professor Mukhtar also appealed for the state’s partnership in certified computing courses, citing the university’s affiliations with global technology firms such as Cisco, Huawei, and Oracle Academy.
Governor Namadi commended Azman University’s innovative approach and acknowledged the importance of the specialized programs it offers. He affirmed the state government’s readiness to support and sponsor Jigawa students in fields not currently available at other institutions in the state.
“The innovative courses you have designed will attract students and scholars. As a government, we are eager to collaborate, support, and sponsor some of our students to study at the university,” the governor stated.
The partnership marks a significant step in Jigawa State’s efforts to strengthen its education sector and equip students with the skills needed for a competitive workforce.
