By Hussaini Ibrahim

In a strategic move to equip young people with digital skills, the Jigawa State Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has sponsored over 500 students to study artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, business intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and software engineering.

Governor Malam Umar Namadi announced this initiative on Thursday during the Induction Ceremony and Presentation of Admission Letters to beneficiaries of the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Programme in Jigawa State.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and economic growth through digital innovation, Governor Namadi stated:

“Today, we are handing over admission letters to 550 students who have gained admission through the Employment and Empowerment Agency, in collaboration with the World Bank, Arms of Ideas, and the government.”

The selected students, who have been admitted to Baze University, will receive training in cutting-edge technology fields, preparing them for the evolving global job market.

The Jigawa State Government and the World Bank have jointly invested over ₦100 million in the initiative, with the World Bank contributing ₦85 million and the state government providing ₦50 million.

Beyond technology training, the governor also celebrated the graduation of 240 youth entrepreneurs who completed a business training program designed to enhance their small-scale enterprises. Each graduate will receive a ₦50,000 seed capital to expand their businesses.

Encouraging the students to make the most of this opportunity, Governor Namadi also promised incentives for academic excellence:

“Any student who graduates with upper credit or distinction will receive a new laptop to support their future endeavors.”

Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to digital transformation and economic empowerment, the governor assured the youth that more policies and programs would be introduced to enhance their livelihoods and professional development.

“We strongly believe that the best way we can support you is by empowering you. Therefore, we will continue to do so, enabling you to contribute to the development of Jigawa State,” he said.
