JUST IN: Boss Mustapha testifies against Emefiele, says Buhari’s signature forged to withdraw $6.2m from CBN
Boss Mustapha, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has testified against Godwin Emefiele, saying the signature of ex-president Muhammadu Buhari was forged by those who withdrew $6,230,000 from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) few days to the 2023 presidential election.
Mustapha made the clarifications on Tuesday while giving evidence in the trial of former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
He said that the letter credited to Buhari as author did not emanate from the Presidency while another one purported to have emanated from him and signed by him were forged documents.
Mustapha noted that it was not the business of the federal government or the office of the SGF to request funds from the CBN for the payment of foreign election observers.
He maintained that it was solely the responsibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deal with issues relating to election observers and not the CBN.
An official of the CBN, Michael Onyeka Ogbu had told a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama on Monday that the amount was given out in cash to an official from the office of the SGF, named Jibril Abubakar following approvals by President Buhari and then CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele following a request by the SGF.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had alleged that Emefiele forged the letters to defraud the Federal Government.
