JUST IN: FCT Minister tours Overwhelming Collapse of Two-Storey Building in Abuja, orders arrest of owner
By Hussaini Ibrahim Sulaiman, Abuja
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, has paid an unscheduled visit to the scene of a building collapse at Lagos Street, Garki Village, Abuja.
The two-storey building, which serves both residential and commercial purposes collapsed on Wednesday night.
Channels TV reports that the Minister ordered the arrest of the owner of the building and has promised to resettle the residents.
Recalled that, Wike has on Wednesday approved the demolition of Garki, Jabi and other 28 slums which had earlier been surveyed by the Federal Capital Development Authority before this administration.
According to the FCTA, the demolition will affect about 6,000 buildings which have been marked to rid the territory of shanties and illegal structures.
Since his inauguration as Minister, Wike, who is the immediate past governor of Rivers State, vowed to restore the master plan of FCT, saying that all illegal structures would be demolished and that his administration was ready to end land speculations.
