Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for their swift intervention following the tragic killing of 16 Kano indigenes in Uromi, Edo State.

In a statement issued by the Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government acknowledged the prompt visits by delegations from the Federal Government and the Edo State Government, describing them as a show of solidarity and concern for the grieving families from Toranke, the hometown of most of the victims.

Governor Yusuf, while expressing sorrow over the heinous act, reiterated his call for justice.

He stressed the importance of a transparent legal process, including the public parade of the arrested suspects, to assure Nigerians that justice is being served.

“We appreciate the actions taken so far, but justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done. The people of Kano, and indeed all Nigerians, deserve to see those responsible for this massacre brought to justice publicly,” he stated.

The governor also lauded Governor Okpebholo’s engagement with the Hausa community in Edo State to prevent further escalation of tensions.

He commended Okpebholo’s commitment to compensating the bereaved families, urging that the process be executed without delay to support those who have lost their breadwinners.

Governor Yusuf further extended his gratitude to President Tinubu for his directive to security agencies to swiftly apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the killings, emphasizing that the Federal Government’s intervention underscores its commitment to the security and protection of all Nigerians.

Meanwhile, the people of Toranke have also expressed their appreciation for the concerted efforts of both the Edo State and Federal Governments in addressing the matter.

The governors of Kano and Edo have pledged to ensure a thorough and transparent justice process, reinforcing their commitment to preventing similar tragedies in the future.

The Kano State Government affirmed its unwavering demand for justice and promised to closely monitor the situation to ensure that the victims’ families receive the necessary compensation and support.
