Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has introduced a competitive development initiative among Local Government Chairmen aimed at accelerating grassroots projects across the state.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The initiative, according to Governor Yusuf, is designed to drive rural transformation by ensuring that local government leaders take an active role in community development.
Speaking during the Hawan Nasarawa celebrations at the Government House, the governor explained the mechanics of the initiative.
“We have introduced a competition where every Local Government Chairman must present and execute development projects within a stipulated timeframe. Once a chairman submits a viable project, funds will be released immediately. Those who deliver on time will be allowed to take on multiple projects,” he stated.
Governor Yusuf also issued a stern warning to underperforming chairmen, urging them to meet their responsibilities.
He emphasized that his administration would not tolerate delays in project execution, stressing the importance of efficiency and accountability.
During the event, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II called on the state government to provide more financial support to local governments to enhance development efforts. In response,
Governor Yusuf assured that his administration is prioritizing rural development and is ready to fund well-planned projects.
The newly introduced competition is expected to foster healthy rivalry among Local Government Chairmen, ensuring efficient service delivery and impactful development across Kano State.
