Kano Govt Engages Stakeholders To Boost Climate, Waste Management Policies

The Kano State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen environmental and climate policies, engaging key stakeholders to drive sustainable development.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim disclosed that his team participated in a training organized by Black Forest and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Daily Hint correspondent said that the training was focused on developing a waste management policy for Used Off-Grid Energy Equipment, a critical step toward achieving a circular economy in Kano and across Nigeria.
The statement also stated, that during a visit, the commissioner and his delegation held discussions with, Director of Pollution Control and Environmental Health at the Federal Ministry of Environment, Engr. (Dr.) Bahijjatu Abubakar.
According to the statement, their talks centred on solid waste management, waste-to-wealth initiatives, and industrial pollution control.
Additionally, the team met with, Director General of the National Council on Climate Change, Nkiruka Maduekwe to align Kano’s Climate Change Policy with Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and to develop an actionable implementation plan.
Further engagements included a meeting with eHealth Africa to explore partnerships addressing the intersection of health and climate change, aiming for a more holistic approach to environmental sustainability.
Dr. Hashim reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Kano a strategic hub for climate action and environmental sustainability at both national and international levels.
