Kano NNPP Lawmaker Reclaims Seat At Court of Appeal

By Hussaini Ibrahim Sulaiman, Kano

A member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) representing Tarauni Federal Constituency in Kano State, Mukhtar Umar Yarima, has reclaimed his seat at the Court of Appeal.

Daily Hint gathered that the election of Mr Yarima was in August invalidated by the National and State House of Assembly elections petition tribunal in Kano for presenting a forged copy of his primary school certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

But the appellate court disagreed with the tribunal, saying the tribunal had failed to establish a case of forgery.

The court held that the respondents, who were petitioners at the tribunal, failed to prove that Mr Yarima was not the same person who attended the school and was awarded the certificate.
The panel consequently set aside the judgment of the tribunal, allowed the appeal and affirmed Zakari’s election victory.
