The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has inaugurated an eight-member Special Investigation Panel (SIP) to probe the violence that erupted during the entourage procession of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II after the Eid prayers on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the panel is tasked with identifying both the immediate and remote causes of the violence, as well as investigating any defiance of the Command’s earlier ban on Durbar and horse-riding activities throughout the Sallah celebrations due to security concerns in the state.

Speaking on the development, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori stated, “The security of Kano State remains our top priority. We will ensure that anyone found responsible for this unfortunate incident is brought to justice.”

The violent incident led to the death of Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, while Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano.

The statement further disclosed that the police had already arrested two suspects in connection with the incident: 20-year-old Usman Sagiru of Sharifai Quarters and 35-year-old Nasir Idris of Kofar Mazugal Quarters. Additionally, the Command has extended an invitation to Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning regarding alleged defiance of the Durbar ban.

“We have zero tolerance for lawlessness. The ban on Durbar was put in place for security reasons, and anyone who defies it will face serious consequences,” said SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

The Kano State Police Command reiterated its stance on the prohibition of Durbar activities, warning that anyone found violating the directive would face strict legal consequences. The Command also emphasized its zero tolerance for thuggery (Daba) and any actions that could lead to public disorder.

A resident of Kano, Malam Sani Musa, expressed his concerns about the incident, saying, “We hope the police will conduct a thorough investigation. The people of Kano deserve to know what really happened.”

The newly constituted investigation panel has been directed to expedite its inquiry and ensure that justice is served, with anyone found culpable facing the full force of the law.

The Kano State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and order while urging residents to comply with security directives to prevent further unrest.
