Labour honours Uzodimma with pacesetter award over workers welfare

By Hussaini Ibrahim

OWERRI, NIGERIA — Governor Hope Uzodimma has received a Pacesetter Award from organised labour in recognition of his administration’s policies on workers’ welfare in Imo State.

Uzodimma said his government remains committed to improving the welfare of workers through prompt payment of salaries, benefits, promotions, and other entitlements.

“My administration remains firmly committed to the welfare of workers in Imo State. It is both a moral obligation and a covenant of trust that we have faithfully upheld through the prompt payment of workers’ salaries, benefits, promotions, and other entitlements,” the governor said.

He noted that the recognition reflects the efforts of his administration in implementing one of the highest minimum wages in the country and prioritising policies aimed at improving the wellbeing of workers.

Uzodimma expressed appreciation to labour leaders for the honour, particularly the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, who was represented at the event by the National President of the National Union of Local Government Employees, Aliyu Haruna Kankara.

“I am deeply honoured to receive the Pacesetter Award from organised labour. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of my administration in implementing policies that prioritise the well-being of our workforce,” he said.

The governor also credited ongoing economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that they have strengthened the capacity of state governments to deliver impactful governance.

“With the economic reforms and policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which have strengthened the capacity of subnational governments with greater resources to deliver impactful governance, we remain resolute in ensuring that the benefits of progressive growth are felt by the people of Imo State,” Uzodimma said.

He added that the award reinforces his administration’s commitment to responsible leadership and people-centred governance.

“As the engine room of government, our workers will continue to receive the motivation, support and recognition they deserve,” he stated.
