Lalong Sworn In As Senator Representing Plateau South Constituency

A day after resigning as Minister of Labour and Employment, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has been sworn in as Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
This was contained in a statement signed and issued by the Special Adviser on Media to Senator Simon Bako Lalong, Dr. Makut Simon Macham said the Senator, accompanied by APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, APC State Chairman Rufus Bature, his wife Mrs Regina Lalong and other family members, Plateau State Governor-elect, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshewe, Deputy Governor-elect Hon. Pam Bot-Mang, members of Plateau caucus in the National Assembly among others, was ushered into the Red Chambers by Sergent-At-Arms shortly after the sitting of the day commenced.
The Clerk of the Senate thereafter administered the oath of office on Senator Lalong before he was formally welcomed by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio who gave him a copy of the Senate Standing Rules.
The Senate President welcomed Senator Lalong and assured him of the goodwill of the 10th Senate to enable him serve his people and Nigeria at large.
The new Senator immediately settled down for the day’s business with his colleagues.
After the close of plenary, a reception was organised for him at the Capital Hotel Abuja where his friends, constituents, supporters and party supporters converged to celebrate the inauguration.
Speaking at the event, Plateau State Governor-elect, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda congratulated Senator Lalong who he described as a leader with excellence, compassion and commitment for the development of the State and Nigeria at large.
APC Chairman Plateau State Hon. Rufus Bature described the rise and rise of Senator Lalong as a result of his resilience, endurance, spirit of service and ability to consider the interest of others.
Member representing Pankshin, Kanke, Kanam Federal Constituency Yusuf Gagdi expressed delight on the grace and favour of God in the life of the Senator who is making history in all ramifications without any noise or bickering.
Senator David Jimkuda representing Taraba South said the former Plateau State Governor is coming to the Senate with a lot of experience, exposure, contacts and capacity to provide leadership for the younger generation of Legislators.
The Long Gamai of Gamailand HRH Miskoom Martin Shaldas III congratulated the former Minister saying his constituents decided to push him to go to the Senate because of his capacity and ability to handle development issues and matters relating to his people irrespective of their differences.
Responding, Senator Lalong thanked God for sustaining and giving him opportunities to serve humanity over the years and in this capacity.
He said the privilege God has given him will not be abused and the people of Plateau South Senatorial District will reap the dividends of democracy under his leadership.
He appealed for prayers and support as well as called for unity within the APC family in Plateau State towards making sure that the people feel the impact of governance.
He promised to work with all Legislators from Plateau State in pushing for matters relating to the progress of not only his Constituency, but the entire State and nation at large.
Lalong thanked President Tinubu for the confidence and trust he bestowed upon him and promised to continue to work for the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda while at the Senate.
