LND condemns killing, raises alarm over security in plateau

From Umar Dankano, Yola.

The League of Northern Democrats,LND has condemned in strongest terms the violent attack on innocent citizens leadi ng to the death of many in Anguwan Rukuba Jos, plateau state capital.

National Publicity Secretary of the league, Dr.Ladan Salihu disclosed the development through a press release on Wednesday charging the government to investigate the remote cause of the ugly scenario with a view to investigate and fish out the perpetrators for sanctions.

According to the release, the league expressed concerns over the presence and activities of one, American national by name Alex Berbir questioning his utterance almost at the same time with the unfortunate killings in Anguwan Rukuba on Sunday evening in Jos.

It added that,Nigeria’s sovereignty and peace must not be undermined by any individual-local or foreign. Incitement, misinformation and provocative conduct such as the ones seen done by Mr. Berbir must not be tolerated.

“The League of Northern Democrats (LND) condemns the recent killings and
‎violence in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State capital.

“‎LND also expresses serious concern over the presence and general activities
‎of one American national, believed to be a mercenary, Mr. Alex Berbir, in
‎connection with the deadly incident.

‘We find it troubling that he reportedly appeared at the scene almost
‎immediately after the attack.

‘We therefore call on authorities to clarify: when he entered Nigeria, how he arrived at the location so quickly and the purpose of his presence, including the contents of the bag he was seen carrying.

‎”More concerning are video clips of this same individual previously seen in
‎Jos openly inciting religious tension by holding the Holy Qur’an and
‎misrepresenting its teachings to provoke hostility against Muslims.

“Such actions are dangerous and unacceptable in a fragile security environment especially as he also made unverified claims online about the
‎nature of the casualties and issued remarks directed at the President, which
‎risk further inflaming tensions.

“We urge Nigeria authority to take appropriate legal action against him immediately because Nigeria’s unity and stability must be protected against internal saboteurs and foreign mercenaries at all costs”.The release pointed out.
