The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Wahidi Shuabu was on Tuesday on a maiden operational visit to the headquarters, Northeast, Operations Hadin Kai (OPHK), to assess the ongoing counter insurgency fight and boost the moral of the troops at the front line.

On arrival at the theater headquarters for the two days maiden operational visit, Lt General Wahidi Shuabu went into closed door strategic meeting with the principal officers of both the Army headquarters and theater command that lasted for over 4 hours..

Speaking in an interview shortly after the closed door meeting,, the COAS said  “I want to first thank you for your felicitations and appreciating our cordial working relationship. You are aware that I’ have been here for a very long time and I’m aware of the challenges. My coming here is, first and foremost to appreciate the troops on what they have been doing and the extent they are going to secure the entire areas of operations. For motivating the troops”

“We try to uphold the soldier-first concept of my predecessor and I’ would do everything to improve on that concept. As soldiers get what is due to them on time and going forward we will see how we can extend that to their family at home while they serve their father land. “, General Shuabu said.

Lt General Shuabu said ” We will. Ensure that the right people are placed in the right places; we will appoint the right type commanders and staff officers in various ways to ensure that we do what is best for the soldiers by holding fairness, justice within the system, ensure that every person gets what is due to him within the system. Every person will get their dues. Knowing fully well that the morale concept of fighting power is key to achieving the desired expectations. “.

“Though related to the second question which borders on welfare, we will do our best to ensure we drive all these policies that are key to improving soldiers’ welfare. We will make sure we do that on time. We will continue to pay their allowances on time, of course you are aware that the ration cost allowances have been approved for the soldiers . With all these packages for them, they will know that they are being taken care of”, he added.

The COAs is billed to visit, the hospital to see the injured soldiers, pay homage to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Garbai Elkanemi and visit the front at the front line in Bama, local government area of the state.
