Maiduguri Blasts: Gov. Buni Donates N10m, Condoles Zulum, Victim’s Families
By Hussaini Ibrahim
MAIDUGURI, NIGERIA — The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has expressed deep condolences to the government and people of Borno State, as well as families of victims affected by the recent multiple bomb explosions in Maiduguri that claimed over 23 lives.
Buni, currently performing the lesser Hajj (Umrah) in Mecca, was represented during a sympathy visit to the Borno State capital by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana.
During the visit, the governor extended sympathies to those injured in the attacks, describing the incident as tragic and lamenting that innocent citizens engaged in their lawful daily activities had fallen victim to senseless violence.
In a message delivered by his deputy, Buni said, “Our hearts bleed as innocent citizens, who were merely going about their lawful daily activities, have become victims of this senseless violence.”
He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information to curb future attacks. “Security is a collective responsibility. We must remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to the relevant authorities,” Buni added.
Reaffirming the long-standing bond between Yobe and Borno States, the governor stressed that the incident underscored their shared reality. “Borno and Yobe are one; whatever affects Borno equally affects Yobe,” he said.
Buni commended the Federal Government and security personnel for ongoing efforts to restore peace in the North-East, while emphasising that recent attacks should not undermine progress achieved in the region.
In a show of solidarity and support for the victims, the Yobe State Government announced a donation of N10 million to assist affected families.
Responding to the gesture, the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, appreciated the Yobe delegation for their solidarity, noting the shared security challenges faced by both states, particularly amid ongoing military operations against insurgents.
Kadafur highlighted that such operations often result in insurgents infiltrating urban areas using improvised explosive devices. He called for sustained collaboration between the two states and citizens to address recurring security threats.
“We must continue to work together and support security agencies to find lasting solutions to these challenges,” he said, urging residents to intensify prayers and remain united in the face of insecurity. “Peace in the region requires collective effort,” he added.
The Yobe delegation included top government officials such as the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, and other aides.
This visit further demonstrates the close cooperation and mutual support between Yobe and Borno States in addressing security challenges and supporting affected communities.
