Maiduguri Flood: Mohammed Algoni Stands in Solidarity with Flood Victims, Calls for SSG’s Apology

Mohammed Algoni, a concerned citizen, supports flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno State, and calls for the State Secretary to the Government (SSG) to apologize for downplaying the flood’s severity. The SSG’s statement contradicts the reality of significant displacement, property damage, and livelihood loss. Algoni urges the SSG to take responsibility and provide accurate information, especially during crises.

The SSG had earlier stated, “I assured residents that the Dam is not broken. The present conditions do not pose a severe threat to the city, noting that all necessary measures were put in place to control the situation.” However, Algoni and many others feel that this statement undermines the gravity of the situation and the suffering of the flood victims.

Algoni is urging the SSG to take responsibility for his words and apologize to the people of Borno for any confusion or distress caused. He believes that it is essential for leaders to acknowledge the severity of the situation and provide accurate information to the public, especially during times of crisis.

The recent flooding in Maiduguri has caused significant displacement, damage to properties, and loss of livelihoods. Many residents are struggling to cope with the aftermath, and Algoni’s call for the SSG’s apology is seen as a step towards acknowledging their suffering and ensuring that necessary measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

Algoni’s call for accountability emphasizes the need for leaders to take responsibility, especially during crises. As Maiduguri recovers from the flood, acknowledging the impact and learning from past actions is crucial. Algoni notes, “I hope that going forward, leaders will provide accurate information to the public, especially during times of crisis.” He stresses the importance of truth and compassion in leadership, affirming that the people of Borno state deserve truth and transparency.
