Mass Defection Hits Kano APC As Hundreds Dumps Party For NNPP
By Hussaini Ibrahim Sulaiman
The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Kano state chapter has on Saturday suffered another great setback following the mass defection of hundreds of its members into the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, received hundreds of the aggrieved APC members who dumped the party over the alleged ‘dollar video’ and misappropriation of public fund labelled against the immediate past governor of the state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Our correspondent reports that, Ganduje is currently the acting National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Recalls that, recently two factions of executive members from Ganduje Ward in Dawakin-Tofa local government area of Kano State have issued a suspending order to the former governor over the allegations of corruptions against him by the Kano State Government.
While receiving the decampees from Shanono and Bagwai local government areas of the state, the governor, represented by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, averred the defectors that they would be treated equally with the old members of the party.
He rejoiced with them over their insightful decision to join the party that committed to cater for the lives of the citizens regardless of party affiliation, adding that his administration will not relent to the implementation of programs and developmental projects in every corner of the state.
The Triumph learnt that about 1000 former members of the All Progressive Congress in the State defected to the NNPP.
Earlier speaking, leader of the defectors, Alh. Haruna Babangida Abbas (Kosashe), explained their decision. Impressed by Governor Abba’s leadership and governance style, they felt the NNPP better aligned with their values.
Abbas expressed regret for their past APC membership and pledged their dedication to working towards a better Kano State under the NNPP.
Present at the event was the Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, while welcoming the new members, He assured to carry them along in all the party activities while urging other political parties and members of the APC to join NNPP in moving the state forward.
Hashimu equally adviced them to rally round the manifestation, policies and programmes of the present administration in the state.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including the Kano State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alh. Musa Suleiman Shanono, and several NNPP stakeholders, who all expressed their satisfaction with the influx of new members.
