Minimum Wage: Gov. Buni Raises Retirees’ Pension By N32,000
By Yusuf Ali
H.E Governor Mai Mala Buni CON has raised retirees’ pension by N32,000 following the implementation of the new minimum wage structure to civil servants in the state.
The pensioners who took to social media to commend the Governor said they have received N32,000 increase in their monthly pension for the month of December following commencement of the new minimum wage in the state.
To be clear, this is the first time the minimum wage increase has been extended to pensioners in the state. This thoughful decision marks a significant milestone in the welfare of retired civil servants who were collecting meagre as pension.
But, as people increasingly testify the increase in the monthly payment for pensioners is just a tip of the iceberg in Yobe state.
Under H.E Gov. Buni’s watch, Yobe State has demonstrated a commitment to improving the welfare of pensioners through several financial initiatives.
In August 2024, the Governor approved over ₦708 million for the payment of benefits to 461 retirees across the state.
Additionally, Governor Buni increased the monthly allocation for gratuity payments from ₦100 million to ₦200 million, effectively doubling the funds available for settling retirees’ benefits.
These measures have been well-received by the pensioners’ community. The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Yobe State expressed appreciation for the increased monthly gratuity payments, acknowledging the positive impact on retirees’ welfare.
While these steps have significantly enhanced the financial well-being of pensioners in Yobe State, the N32,000 direct increase in the monthly payment for the retirees’ is outstanding.
