NDE commences employment initiative trainings to 93,731 youth & women..DG

No fewer than 93,731 youths and women have been selected for an extensive skills acquisition and vocational training across the country.

Director General, National Directorate of Employment, NDE. Silas Ali Agara made the disclosure at the official flag off ceremony in Yola, Adamawa state capital Friday stressing that, the Federal government through its Renewed Hope employment initiatives floated the programme to ensure poverty alleviation and wealth creation.

Represented by Acting state Coordinator of the Directorate, Mallam Bello Nuhu, Agara said that the launching of the national programme was informed by the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to the Directorate, NDE to

reposition its strategy for optimized employment creation.

Agara stated that the Friday’s signposts was the first step in the execution of the President’s directives through the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative which is a modest short term effort at checking the scourge of unemployment in Nigeria.

Agara noted that the Directorate in conjunction with federal ministry of Humanitarian and poverty alleviation are offering trainings of three categories of fourteen days (14),one (1) month and Three (3) months which also attract starter packs and loan opportunity to the beneficiaries.

“The current employment initiative has been designed to engage a total of 93,731 unskilled and unemployed and inclusiveness has been a cardinal consideration as we designed this programme.

“We have ensured that a minimum of 10 persons from each of the 8,809 electoral wards in Nigeria were recruited to benefit from the 30 skill sets across our four core programmes of Vocational Skills Development, Small Scale Enterprises, Rural Employment Promotion and Special Public Works.

“Various categories of the unskilled and unemployed have been provided for within the framework of the programme such as school leavers, school dropouts, women, graduates of tertiary institutions, retirees and persons with special needs among others.

“After the training, a good number of the beneficiaries would be resettled into productive entrepreneurial lives through the provision of tools, equipment and startup capital. However, those that we are not able to resettle will be linked with credit granting institutions for further support.

“In furtherance of the deployment of ICT in our operations, I am delighted to inform you that 40,000 out of the 93,731 persons enrolled in this programme will be receiving training in ICT and digital skills”.The Director General announced.

Earlier in his remarks at the ceremony, State Coordinator NDE,Yola. Mallam Bello Nuhu stated that two thousand,three hundred and sixteen (2,316) participants have successfully passed the online entrance screening and will commence the various training immediately.

Represented by Mrs Pwa’angulma Noise ,HOD, Human Resources ,Bello Nuhu noted that it was not all that applied scaled through rather the lucky ones urging them to be committed in the trainings for their businesses upliftment in the societies.

Nuhu confirmed that 10 participants each from the 226 political wards will be capture for the training adding that another batch would be selected in the first quarter of next year, 2025.

While commending the Adamawa state government for provision of enabling environment for business in the state,he reiterated that the program is a deliberate step by the NDE in order to equip our youths with emerging skills that will enable them become globally competitive.

Representative of the Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Ishaya John Dabari charged the participants to be serious about the training so that they can download the takeaways to the larger society for creation of job opportunities.

Dabari who was noticed visibly elated applauded the intervention saying it came at the right time when the country is grappling with economic and social challenges.

In her speech,the Directorate’loans officer,Hassana Musa encourage the participants to be prompt in repayment of the loans facilities to be accorded to them after the training so that those behind them can benefit in the scheme respectively.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ibrahim Audu and Melody Ibrahim thanked the federal government for being there for the youth, women and people with special needs promising to be good ambassadors in their various fields of engagement.
