NDLEA Arrests Over 800 Drug Traffickers In Borno

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA has arrested eight hundred and sixty-three illicit drug traffickers and consumers in Borno state between January to December 2023.
Borno State Commander of the Agency Iliyasu Mani made this known in a statement in Maiduguri.
The Command has also seized four points five tonnes of assorted substances and counselled seven hundred and thirty-six persons associated with drug abuse.
The statement noted with concern the growing cases of psychoactive substance abuse especially among youths which constitute a security threat to the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.
It however assured that NDLEA Borno State Command has strengthened efforts to contact the menace through the establishment remodelled rehabilitation centre within the premises of the Command in Maiduguri.
“Let me make it categorically here that these new psycho-active substances are enormous as well as commonly abused today include Cannabis sativa, cough syrup with codeine, Ice, toilet fumes, Lizard dung among others” Mani said.
The Commander also says the command has established drop-in centres across all the tertiary institutions in the state to serve as drug abuse research centres as well as intelligence platforms within the institution.
He solicits the collaboration of security and law enforcement agencies as well as the citizenry to succeed in the fight against illicit drug consumption and abuse.
