NDLEA & JEJE Riders launch nationwide campaign to Combat Drug Abuse i Adamawa

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in collaboration with the JE,JE Riders Nigeria have flagged off a nation wide students anti-drug abuse campaign in Adamawa state.
The event, held at Capital School in Yola, weekend brought together students, National and International power bike riders with their intimidating colorful bikes, Comedians, citizens, and notable personalities from Adamawa and Nigeria.
Chairman and Chief Executive officer of the Agency, NDLEA.General Mohammed Buba Marwa while delivering his speech stated that the campaign was driven by passion, dedication,and unwavering commitment to shield the students and young ones from the scourge of drug abuse.
Marwa who represented by the NDLEA state commander Femi S. Agboalu said that, the campaign became necessary at a time when the nation grapples with the increasing menace of drug abuse commending the jeje power bike riders Association for its roles to fighting drug abuse in our communities.
Marwa decried that the prevalence of drug abuse was significantly higher among our young people stressing that available statistics has revealed that more than 14.3 Million Nigerians between the ages of 15 and 64 have used drugs at least once in their life time.
“2018 National Drug Use Survey conducted by UNODC in concert with CRISCA (Centre for research and information on substance Abuse and NBS) revealed that 370,000 drug users representing 17% annual prevalence of drug users are in Adamawa state as at 2018”.Marwa lamented.
He therefore charged the students and young ones to avoid drug abuse which destroy abusers live with ease reiterated that the flagg off campaign is the beginning of a journey to reclaim our future from the clutches of addiction.
In his address,Mr.Ibrahim Mathew Tizhe, JE JE Riders’ president, highlighted the organization’s focus on youth development and humanitarian services.
Tizhe told the youths not to be distracted with social vices especially drug abuse but rather concentrate on building their future meaningfully through studies warning that drug abuse crushes one’s entire life.
Earlier Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri reiterated the commitment of his government in fighting drug abuse pledging unwavering support during the nationwide campaign organized by JE JE Riders.
Represented by the Commissioner of Education, Dr.Umar Garba Pella,Fintiri emphasized the dangers of drug abuse among the youths and students, urging them to desist from the act.
He also commended JE JE Riders for mobilizing their members from Nigeria and other African countries to initiating the campaign which indicates that the challenge is facing us as humans across the globe.
The event featured award presentations to sponsors and members of JE JE Riders from other African countries, as well as a comedy performances by Sarkin Dariya and Lady Blessing on the menace of drug abuse.
