NEDC trains 600 Tsangayya, Islamiya teachers on capacity building to stem Almajiri, out of school children

To stem Almajiri and out of school children, the Federal Government through the North East Development Commission (NEDC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Arabic Village Ngala have organized to train the trainers workshop for Almajiri and Islamiya teachers across the Northeast on capacity building

Speaking at the flagging off the two weeks train the trainers workshop held at Arabic Village, Maiduguri, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa represented by the Vice Chancellor, Al Ansar University, Prof Abubakar Kundiri said “This initiative marks a bold and pragmatic step toward addressing one of the most pressing educational challenges confronting the region, the issue of Out-of-School Children.”.

The workshop was aimed at training them English and numerical knowledge, teaching among, school and pupils management among others.

“This workshop, jointly organized by the Nigeria Arabic Language Village and the North East Development Commission, is a shining example of what productive partnerships between institutions can achieve when they are driven by a shared vision of national development and human capital advancement. With 100 teachers drawn from each of the six states of the North East sub-region, this pilot initiative is carefully designed not just as a temporary, intervention, but as the beginning of a sustainable model for improving the quality of Islamic and Arabic education in Tsangaya and Islamiyya schools.by deepening our teachers”, the Minister said.

Dr Alausa said ” It is with great pleasure and deep sense of national commitment that I stand before you today to flag off this historic Train-the-Trainer Workshop for 600 Tsangaya and Islamiyya Teachers across the North East geopolitical zone of our dear country.”.

He said understanding of the Arabic Language, in the critical
areas of grammatical rules and phonological accuracy, this training, seeks to prevent the misapplication and misinterpretation of Arabic grammar that can sometimes lead to doctrinal confusion or misunderstanding. Let me use this opportunity to acknowledge the unwavering commitment and giant strides of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The minister said, President Tinubu is repositioning the Nigerian
education system in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, vision for inclusive, accessible and quality education continues to inspire initiatives.

He commended Governor Babagana Zulum, for his tireless efforts in revolutionising education in Borno and for his solid support toward the success of this programme..

Also speaking Governor Babagana Zuum of Borno state represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur said “This workshop represents a significant milestone in our shared commitment to rebuilding and empowering the educational infrastructure of the North East, especially through capacity-building initiatives in language education.
As we gather today at the Babagana Umara Zulum Hall, we are reminded of the resilience, vision, and dedication required to overcome the challenges faced by our region.”.

“The focus on training trainers is particularly strategic.
By investing in those who educate others, we are multiplying impact, fostering sustainability, and ensuring that knowledge flows continuously into our schools and institutions. Arabic language education is not only a cultural and religious asset but also a bridge to broader academic and diplomatic opportunities for our youth”, Zulum said.

Zulum said “We commend the Nigeria Arabic Language Village for its consistent pursuit of excellence in Arabic language teaching and for its role as a national model in specialized language education. Likewise, we extend our gratitude to the North East Development Commission for its unwavering support in driving forward educational and developmental projects across the region.”

The Governor urged the participants to engage fully in the sessions ahead, stressing that the seeds being nurtured by the training will. Germinate to strong trees tomorrow,, as mentors, educators, and
beacons of knowledge in their various communities.

“Let us proceed with renewed vigor, united in purpose and hopeful for a future where education remains pillar of peace, progress, and prosperity.On this promising note, I hereby formally declare the two-week Train-the-Trainers Workshop open., he added.
