NLC protest in Maiduguri, Borno State

Following the directive by Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) that all state chapters should stage nationwide protest against the economic policies of the Federal Government, in Maidugurii the Borno state capital, the personnel of the Nigerian Police Force barricaded the premises of the state NLC Secretariat to stop them from participating in the street walk nationwide protest.
Daily Hint Reporter who was at NLC Secretariat, Maiduguri on Tuesday reports that Armed Policemen led by the state Commissioner of police were dispatched to the Secretariat at the NLC early morning to ensure law and order..
Addressing members at the NLC Secretariat, the Borno state Chairman of the NLC, Comrade, Inuwa Yusuf said himself and other state executive of the union have in the past 3 days holding meetings with the police authority but the police denied them the access to go beyond the Secretariat, alleging that the police said they received an intelligence reports that hideous may hijack the protest
Despite the attempt by the police, the NLC went ahead to stage a walk within the premises and some metres away from the Secretariat holding placards with inscriptions such as “stop hunger lower food price”, Fix local refineries, no to subsidy removal”..
It could be recalled the NLC has called for a nationwide protest from 27 and 28 February, 2024.
